The client wanted a home on a hill, overlooking paddocks, with a strong connection to nature and their horses. The house should feel part of the landscape—simple, open, and inviting, with the relaxing atmosphere of the outdoors integrated into the living spaces.
The design fully leveraged the sloping block to offer panoramic views from all living areas and the master bedroom. After careful consideration of natural hazards and the sun path, we positioned the house to maximize natural light, with cross-ventilation for energy efficiency and comfort.
The open-plan living space features high ceilings and white finishes, perfect for showcasing the client’s artwork and travel pieces. Surrounding decks on the north, southeast, and southwest sides were designed for year-round enjoyment, offering sun in winter and shade in summer.
The use of environmentally friendly NRG Energy Green Board and quality ceiling insulation ensures a high energy rating, keeping the home comfortable year-round. The shape of the house complements the hillside, blending into the environment while capturing distant ocean views and a sense of connection to the paddocks.
The design seamlessly connects indoor and outdoor living, with inviting spaces created for enjoying a glass of wine with friends in the open-plan area, enhanced with warm colours, rugs, and curtains.
